Tintype Conversion

Send us your high resolution digital image and we can convert it into a tintype on black aluminum in the size of your choice.  If you only have a physical version of your image contact us for details, we can scan and return the item to you when we complete the tintype conversion.

How it works

We use our 100+ year old camera to take a photograph of your image creating a unique one of a kind image instead of having a live subject in front of us.

Just like our live wet plate images the plate is coated in collodion, sensitized in silver nitrate, exposed in the camera, then developed and fixed.  Finally the image is varnished, the varnished is allowed to cure and we ship off your image to you.

The process of taking a tintype naturally mirrors the image within the camera.  We can correct for this by flipping your image before making your tintype or we can leave the image as is and it will appear as a mirrored version of your original.

Don’t forget a frame or case for it.  We specialize in photo cases and frames.  If you want a package deal just let us know and we can give you a custom quote on your own bespoke combination.

Choose your size from traditional 19th century sizes from the small 1/16th plate to Whole plate and also 4”x5”, 5”x7” and 8”x10”.

When you complete your order please email your high resolution digital images to us at sales@moderndayantique.com for processing.  Thank you!
